Cross Country Field / Grass Showjumping Practice Area

Mill Farm DIY Cross Country Course

We have decided that for 2025 onwards our Cross Country Course and Canter Field is for our liveries and their guests only. It’s a super asset to have for the yard and is something very special.

Set in three acres, the course has over 20 jumps from 40 cm warm up jumps through to a 100 cm tractor.  All jumps are clearly marked so that you know exactly what you are jumping – including ditches, brush fences, corners, and a step!  We have a pairs practice fence as well as a number of skinnies and an owl hole – so there’s something for everyone! A new addition is the BE standard XC Start Box as well as Pony Club Tetrathalon standard Gate and Slip Rail - perfect for practice! The Cross Country course jumps have been built by Oliver Goody Construction and the routes designed by Tim Cheffings, a youth coach with BE, and it is designed to test and challenge whilst allowing you to put together your own course of fences.

The field will now be available to the liveries at all times and they can book a lesson in the field, or use it whenever they fancy a play! In addition to the Cross Country jumps we now also have a set of wooden show jumps in the field with fantastic spooky poles - swirls, stripes, pencils and the Mill Farm DIY Livery ‘Hickstead’ planks (!) - you name it - we’ve got it! Great for practicing on grass ahead of all those County Shows!

We will run a weekend of ‘invite a friend’ for the liveries so that they can share the field with a mate - look out for those as these will be the only time that the field will be open for general use. Those attending will need to sign the Cross Country Disclaimer and adhere to the Yard rules, including providing confirmation of insurance.

Mill Farm Social Scene!

The Liveries (the Mill Farmers!) are a super bunch and are very social. We hold a number of events for the yard throughout the year and this helps to bond everyone together and create a family feel.

We kicked off 2025 with a yard breakfast at The Sexeys, Blackford, with 24 joining us for breakfast (other halves are invited too!), we will then probably have a few more breakfasts (!) as well as the Badminton Trip, a yard Summer barbecue, the yard Bonfire Night and of course, the main event, the annual Yard Christmas Party!

Everyone gets on so well that it’s a pleasure to be together - and hopefully that will shine through when you visit the yard. Everyone is welcome and we try to ensure that we have created a safe space so that it’s your ‘happy place’. Pictures below of the Christmas Party 2024!
